Tips to avoid BPA

All the news about BPA made me think about the other products that might have BPA in them.  So much focus has been on BPA found in baby bottles and toys that it has neglected to tell us more about the other products with BPA.

Basically, if BPA is found in plastics products and it's leached out when the plastic is heated then we should be more conscious on how often we use plastics and in what way can we change it. Plastic is everywhere in our house. We use it to store food, water and everything else that can fit in it.

Now for the tips. Here a few ways to avoid BPA.
  • Don't use plastic when heating food in the microwave
  • Lessen use or consumption of  canned foods. Canned beverages contain lesser amount of BPA while canned soup have a higher amount
  • As much as possible avoid buying powdered formula milk in metal can packaging
We already stopped using plastic to heat our food in the microwave and have switched to using glass instead. That means pouring any hot or warm  liquid in a plastic cup is a no no. Sometimes I think I'm obsessing too much on using natural products, staying away from chemical laden products and now swearing off plastics but hey I've got nothing to lose.

On another note, Rubbermaid has several BPA free products found at their website. Good to know that they have these products available to market. I just hope that other companies would do the same.
